The Evolution of Theory and Research in Social Psychology: From Single to Multiple Effect and Process Models of Persuasion

Richard E. Petty received his B.A. from the University ofVirginia in 1973 and his doctorate in social psychology from Ohio State University in 1977. In 1987, he left his position as Middlebush Professor at the University of Missouri to return to Ohio State where he won the University Distinguished Scholar Award in 1994. He is the author of seven books and over 150 journal articles and chapters. Dr. Petty is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Psychological Association, and the American Psychological Society. He is former editor of the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin and current serves on the editorial board of six journals.
